SINCE enjoying success in organising the building of a new classroom at Kyema Primary School, Uganda, the Friends of Kyema in Launceston have spent more time networking in the parishes of Kyema and Hoima.
The work of one man in particular came to their attention, because of his boundless energy and unwavering commitment to his own people. His name is the Ven Mike K Ateenyi.
Mike and his family had been host to the friends chairperson, Barbara Strasman, on her first visit to Uganda. Over supper one evening in 2002, he outlined a plan he had conceived through which he hoped to help the many vulnerable women and children affected by AIDS in his parish.
