A FORMER student recently revisited Sir James Smith's Community School, with the aim of inspiring its current pupils to become the engineers of the future.

Ben Tapley, who left Sir Jim's five years ago, is now an undergraduate at the University of Cardiff, and working at Hinkley Point B Power Station at Somerset on an industrial placement with EDF Energy as part of his studies.

He spoke to Year 10 and 11 pupils, who are high achievers in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) about the opportunities that all forms of engineering can offer them.

Ben specifically outlined the thousands of new jobs which will be available in the future in the region due to the regeneration of Hinkley Point.

He also answered questions from the students regarding subjects to study at 'A-level', apprenticeships and job opportunities etc.
