former classmates from Sir James Smith's Grammar School, Camelford, who received their education between the years of 1958-1965, recently met up for their fourth reunion at Anvil Court in Camelford for a most enjoyable buffet lunch and the traditional cutting of the reunion cake.

Old pupils from Australia, Canada, USA, Germany and Switzerland, as well as from all over the UK and locally had all come to stir some memories.

This was followed by a superb meal at Bowood in the evening. They were delighted to be joined by their partners and spouses, former teachers and school caretaker for the events, all of whom have come to share the unique bond that has survived over fifty years. During the afternoon, several of the party went for a tour of the old school, which prompted some evocative memories, followed by a walk through Enfield Park where the ex-pupils used to play tennis in their youth before the comprehensive school was built.

After the evening meal, MC Keith Cooper thanked the committee for organising all the events and the excellent staff at Bowood. He then introduced the first musical entertainment which was provided by Cornish Bards, Keith and Clarinda Truscott (Clarinda being an ex-pupil). They sang some local songs in their unique style and were accompanied by Rosemary Heard.

John Heard then played some wonderful tunes on his violin and all felt very privileged having such talented artistes perform. John Masters, also an ex-pupil, had everyone in stitches recounting the various habits and mannerisms of former staff and colleagues. Several other tales spoken in the Cornish dialect also proved hilarious and again many memories, fond and otherwise, were evoked.

To round off the proceedings, Adrian, the son of Helen Bonney (nee Lewin), played his guitar and sang some sixties songs, closing with the ever popular Beatles number, 'Hey Jude'.

On Sunday, August 1, several members met in the Wooton's in Tintagel for lunch and then regrouped at Carole Vincent's (former PE mistress) at Half Acre, Boscastle, for light refreshments in her beautiful garden at teatime. The weekend came to a delightful close in the Napoleon Inn for supper, and thanks were extended to everyone who helped to make the Camel Reunion 2010 such a memorable one.
