A FORMER national broadcaster has turned author with the release of his first book. Peter Spencer used to visit Cornwall with his parents as a youngster, and said he 'fell in love with the place as a child'. Some years on, he purchased his home at Trebarwith from his daughter and her husband, which he rented out while he still lived in Islington, London, before relocating — not retiring! — to Cornwall and becoming an author. He said: "I have an absolute horror of the 'R word'. It makes one sound old. Being an author is a better job description than being retired. Besides, the last part of any broadcaster to die is the ego. Like politicians, we crave recognition."
