A former mayor of Bude, Gordon Rogers (pictured), has died at Bodmin Hospital, aged 89.

Mr Rogers was mayor of Bude from 1988 to 1989.

He was a Bude town councillor and manager of the Co-op for many years. He was also a trustee at the Blanchminster Trust.

Mr Rogers was born at Trefrouse Farm, Week St Mary. The youngest of eight children, he moved to Lynstone Road in Bude in 1957, and then retired to Kings Hill.

He was a keen gardener and loved bell ringing. He used to ring at Poughill Church, where his own funeral is due to be held on tomorrow (Friday) at 2pm.
