A CORNWALL councillor has welcomed the completion of the upgrade of a vital pedestrian link in Callington, which has been carried out by CORMAC.

Andrew Long, the town’s Mebyon Kernow member on Cornwall Council, had been working for a year with the authority to ensure that the ‘Mud Lane’ section that links the eastern edge of Coronation Road with Pengelly Lane and the access to Tesco was refurbished.

Cllr Long said: “Over the last few years, the surface of this vital ‘safe route to school’ had become damaged due to the poor winter weather and I approached CORMAC back in 2016 to get it refurbished.

“It is really great to see it looking so much better, and now students and the general public can have a safe, accessible route to the town from the east.

“I was also pleased to see the work done to clear the lighting to ensure that at night it is a safe route to use, with good publicity. People often criticise the council when things don’t happen, but when it is completed they do deserve praise, as in this case.”

The community litter pick, which has been organised by Cllr Long along with local residents Mikkie Raphael and Cameron Glet, concluded their opening year’s events with a final pick, including the Mud Lane stretch, recently.

During the year, they estimate they have collected over two-tonnes of rubbish across the town and will be looking to start up again in the spring of next year.
