DEVIATING from tradition slightly, this year’s Holsworthy Carnival window display competition was led by the town council.
In previous years the carnival committee has organised a window dressing competition, but this year it was felt that since many shops in the town had already created magnificent displays to commemorate the centenary of the end of the Great War, that these displays be judged as part of the competition.
The committee organised an independent panel of judges to come to Holsworthy and award first, second, third and highly commended awards to the best displays.
A spokesperson from the committee said: “The judges said that this year it was very difficult to pick winers because of the very high standard all round.”
However, the judges eventually concluded that first was to go to Floral Designs, second to Coombes Menswear and third to The Card Cabin. Highly commended were North Devon Hospice Shop, Reflections and Meet ‘N’ Eat.
The spokesperson added: “Holsworthy carnival committee would like to thank the town council for organising the event, and also the independent panel of judges, and especially all the shops and businesses that have made our town look so lovely over the past few weeks.”
