A FLORIST from Launceston has received a highly commended award at the WorldSkills UK competition’s ‘Skills Show’, which took place from November 17 to 19.

Charlotte Dawe, from Flower Scene in Launceston, trained at Bicton College, Exeter and is currently studying Academy of Floral Art, Exeter studying City & Guilds Level 4 Higher Diploma in Floristry.

Charlotte has said she is inspired by Moniek Vanden Berghe, Gregor Lersch and Simon Lycett to name a few. Her most exciting floristry job to date was her own wedding flowers last year and she has competed twice at RHS Chelsea winning medals on each occasion.

Charlotte competed in the WorldSkills UK competition national finals at The Skills Show, which is the largest skill and career event for young people in the UK.

The competition took place from Friday, November 17, to Saturday, November 19, at the NEC Birmingham.

As well as ‘showing off’ the skills of the top trainees in the UK the show offered visitors a chance to get hands on and try out new skills from aeronautical engineering through to graphic design. They also offered impartial advice and guidance on routes into work, with live employment and training vacancies available during ‘sign up Saturday’ on November 19.

Charlotte won her place in the national finals of the competition after scoring highly in the national heats and spent a lot of time training for The Skills Show finals. She has now come away with a highly commended award.
