A FLIPPING success was the best way to describe the Shrove Tuesday Pancake Party in Altarnun Church Hall — when nearly 80 guests enjoyed the delicious fare on offer — and most came back for second helpings.

The special event was hosted by the rector, the Rev Deryn Roberts, and the pancakes were all cooked on the spot by Jo White, the proprietor of the Altarnun Tea Room (and Launceston’s Coffee Pot Cafe). The evening proved so popular that extra supplies of flour and eggs had to be fetched at short notice to satisfy demand.

For the youngsters, who attended with their parents, it was a special half-term treat, while there were toys and games for pre-school children. Mrs Roberts and Mrs White were assisted during the two-hour session by churchwardens Tony Naylor and Peter Hall and worship leader Antony Naylor.

But there was no pancake flipping by the guests — the pancakes, with syrup, jam or lemons, were so good they disappeared rapidly! The event was free of charge, and donations went to church hall funds.
