Launceston marked Armed Forces Day recently with a salute to the serving and veterans community by raising a flag on the castle tower.

The aim of the day is to show support for the armed forces community and to provide a much valued morale boost for troops and their families.

The annual event is organised by the Launceston branch of the Royal British Legion, who would like to thank the mayor, Cllr David Gordon, and the town crier and honoured burgess, Cllr Rob Tremain, for supporting it.

They would also like to thank English Heritage and the staff at Launceston Castle for hosting the event.

In particular, they would like to thank the people of Launceston and the surrounding area for their continued and heartfelt support to the armed forces community as a whole, with an RBL spokesperson adding: “It is genuinely appreciated.”
