GYM users at Holsworthy Pool will be able to enjoy a new state of the art facility this autumn, following £100,000 refurbishment of the fitness room at the centre.

Work will begin at the site on October 5 to extend the gym area, install new ventilation, lighting and flooring, and redecorate.

The existing gym equipment will be upgraded to Technogym’s latest range, with touch screen displays, integrated TV, internet access plus a range of apps and games across the cardiovascular machines.

The upgrade will also see the addition of a full range of resistance machines, giving members a greater exercise experience.

The work, which is expected to take around four weeks to complete, is being funded jointly by Torridge District Council and 1610, the leisure provider which manages the site.

The refurbishment of the gym is the latest in a series of improvements that have been carried out at Holsworthy Pool.

Last summer Torridge Council invested £175,000 to replace obsolete plant and equipment to upgrade heating and ventilation at the pool, as well as the installation of a new pool cover.

Gym members will not be able to use the fitness room while the refurbishment work is carried out but will be able to access gym facilities at Torridge Pool.

Cllr Richard Wiseman, Torridge District Council lead member for leisure, said: “I am really pleased that as a council we have been able to continue to invest in much needed and used sports facilities across the district.

“I am sure that the refurbished gym and new state of the art equipment will be welcomed by users and hope that it will also attract more people to take up exercise.

“I look forward to the successful completion of the project in partnership with 1610.”

The manager of Holsworthy Leisure Centre, Richard Bean, said that once the work is completed 1610 is to launch an exercise class programme at the centre which will further enhance the leisure services on offer for the local community.

“Members of Holsworthy Pool have in the past year experienced a huge improvement in services and facilities, following the pool refurbishment, and the same will be true once the gym is upgraded.”
