A new group of 20 gathered last week to learn the art of handbell ringing at a meeting held in the newly refurbished church rooms in the centre of Tintagel.

The vicar the Rev Michael Parsons welcomed everyone with a glass of wine and Mike Jory, captain of the tower bell ringers at the parish church, gave a warm welcome to Cathy and Peter Glaser from St Breward Handbell Ringers, who encouraged all present to have a go at the fine art of ringing handbells, playing the recently refurbished set of 12 'Tintagel Parish Church' handbells in E major.

Cathy initially gave a brief history of St Breward Handbell Ringers, which was established 15 years ago, and how its members enjoy the social aspects of weekly practice nights and now perform at events throughout the year.

All present took it in turn to join in a small group to play a number of prepared set pieces of music while Cathy pointed giving advice on technique and how to follow the music.
