Through August and September, Bude Community Fire Station has managed to raise an impressive £3,000 from their annual fundraising events, which was split and donated to charity organisations on Monday, November 18.

The first of their fundraisers was on Saturday, August 17 which was a barbecue held during Bude’s carnival day. Then the fire station held its annual open day in August which was well attended by a variety of ages.

In September 28 the fire crew carried out a charity car wash in Bude’s Morrison’s car park. The money was then split between three charity organisations, Stratton Hospital League of Friends which received £650; Cornwall Air Ambulance Heli Appeal receiving £650; and then £1,700 that went to The FireFighters Charity.

Watch manager at Bude, Peter Garrad was grateful for the continued support from the local community.

He said: “We always get good support from local businesses in donating prizes for the raffles and the local people that attend the events. Thanks must go to our crews, the friends and of course the relatives that support us.

“Stan presented the cheque to the Air Ambulance as a few years ago he had to take a trip in one himself.

“The Stratton League of Friends do great work and it’s appreciated by us and the community. Although they recently reached their £1 million target, they still need more. We certainly don’t ever want to see it shut.”

The third, The FireFighters Charity, is an organisation that current serving and retired firefighters can use to support them.

They have three different locations across the country where members can receive physical and mental support, as well as it being somewhere to take a break if needed.

Peter said the community fire station are already hopeful of running similar events in the new year to raise money and is sure that they will once again have the support of the community.
