BUDE Ladies 1st XI finished their season on a high by collecting all three points against Falmouth. Saturday's victory mean that Bude finish third in Premier Division Two, their highest position so far.
Bude put everything they had been taught by manager Dawn Messenger-Pates into practice in order to return to winning ways. Their passing was much sharper than in recent weeks and with strong communication, they were organised from the off.
Tammy Snowsill played some great balls out to Di Old on the right, and Naomi Hatcher and Sam Horn took turns to test Falmouth's defence down the left with Robyn Pengilly and Leanne Stanbury offering support in the middle.
Briony Varcoe was joined by Emily Horn up front and with a goal from each Bude were soon two goals up. Not wanting to lose their lead, (something that has happened a couple of times this season!) Bude marked well and Miranda Pomeroy, Kirsty Heslop and Sharon Rundle, who was warmly welcomed back after an injury, put in some great tackles to stop the very quick Falmouth attackers in their tracks.
Before half time, a shot from Briony was tapped in at the post by Emily to take the score to 3-0.
In the second half, Bude continued to put pressure on Falmouth, however the home side also had a number of opportunities to add to the scoresheet.
Bude's defence worked hard to prevent Falmouth from closing the gap, including clearing shots off the line, but it was player of the match 'keeper Jo Timmins who the team had to thank for their clean sheet.
Having two penalty flicks given against them in the second half could easily have meant that Falmouth edged closer to a draw but Jo confidently saved them both.
Every Bude player put in 100 per cent to hold onto their well deserved victory.
Thanks go to Claire Gifford for driving the mini bus, Simon Fry for umpiring and Dawn Messenger-Pates, Kirsty Heslop and Briony Varcoe for all their work this season as manager, captain and vice-captain.
