HOLSWORTHY and District Lions recently donated £500 to the Friends of Bude Sea Pool.

Bude Sea Pool was built during the 1930s, but all public funding was withdrawn in 2010. The Friends of Bude Sea Pool fought a vigorous campaign in 2011 to keep the pool open for the season, and later took on its management in 2012.

Friends of Bude Sea Pool is a local charity, and has raised over £30,000 each year in efforts to keep Bude Sea Pool open.

June 1 saw club Holsworthy and District Lions’ club president, Brian Withall, say at the presentation of the £500 cheque: “Holsworthy and District Lions have made a great effort in the past few years to help charities and other good causes in the Bude, especially with regard to our annual Easter egg draw.

“As that is the case, it is particularly satisfying to be able to make a donation of £500 to the Friends of Bude Sea Pool, even though that is only a drop in the ocean compared to what is needed.

“The sea pool is much loved by locals and tourists alike, and Holsworthy and District Lions and I wish them all the success in the coming years.”
