A TENBY father and son will be stepping out in the Virgin London Marathon next Sunday, April 26, for JDRF, the Type 1 Diabetes charity.
Richard and Morgan Slate will be joined by more than 190 JDRF runners who aim to raise over £400,000 in total to support vital Type 1 Diabetes research.
Talking of their motivation to take part in this challenge, Richard and Morgan said: "We know a number of people who have to live with this condition and if putting ourselves through months of training and running a marathon at the end will help to find a cure, then it will be worth it."
This is the fifth London Marathon for Richard and the second for Morgan and all have been in aid of JDRF.
Richard and Morgan have been training long and hard ahead of the marathon, picking up injuries along the way, but are now ready for the challenge.
Around 40,000 people will be running the 26.2 mile route from Greenwich to The Mall in what is one of the most famous races in the world.
Some 400,000 people in the UK live with Type 1 Diabetes - including 29,000 children - and rely on multiple insulin injections or pump infusions every day just to stay alive.
A child diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of five faces up to 19,000 injections and 50,000 finger pricks by the time they are 18. The condition is not linked to lifestyle factors such as diet and exercise.
