1220 Fat Hoggs, 187 Draft Ewes and Rams
Much larger entry and a flying trade for all weights and still more could have been sold, overall average on the day was 396.7ppk.
The good meat hoggs topped at 426ppk for a pen of 44kgs to £187.50 from Mike Bellew of Gammaton, Bideford followed by 417ppk from Jim & Spencer Dennis of Hartland.
42kgs at £175 from Derek Goaman of Firebeacon, Hartland made 416ppk for his 43.4kgs to £180.50 and Chris Jenn of Woolsery saw his 40.4kgs make 413ppk £165. There were 38 pens over 400ppk to 410ppk.
Heavies had a very strong trade, top on the day was £194 from 3 vendors firstly for 5 pens of 54kgs from Victor and Celia Goaman of Stitworthy, Higher Clovelly also Steve Cottle of Upcott realised £194 aswell as Graham Heard of Hartland. There were 42 pens of Hoggs that realised £190 to £193.
Draft Ewes
Larger entry and again a flying trade, overall average of £157.51.
Suffolk x topped the day at £195 from John Gorman of Woodlands, Callington and Polled Dorset ewes to £189 from Ivor Prouse, North Arscott. Texel x ewes to £186 from Max Allin of Launcells and Mules to £171.
104 Store Hoggs
Still a strong trade, top of the day was £161 from Jim and Spencer Dennis of Hartland.
Couples 70E and 120L
Similar entry and a stronger trade.
Severeal doubles to £370 but top on the day was £420 for Suffolk x from John Shipton of Week St Mary. Singles to £290 from Danny Norman of Dolton and Nathan Goaman realised £280 for his singles.
466 Calves
Bigger numbers of rearing calves forward saw a more varied trade, the top end less money but the mediums and smalls looking a tremendous trade.
Weaned Calves
A good run of weaned calves in the ranks which rose to £1020 (5m) for a pair of well presented Blue steers in from Fullabrook Farm Partnership down from Ilfracombe who sold Angus heifers well at £995 (5m).
Milk Calves
Top end milk calves less money but that said strong Blue bulls hit £900 for O Petherick, other Blue bulls to £885 for one of the best Blue bulls seen at Holsworthy Market sold by Nick and Kate Bowden, more £768 Steve Furse, £752 Steven and Karen Kendall and £750 twice A & D Heyward with 80 Blue bulls averaging a impressive £608.
Jenny Hookway presented a trio of well done Limousin bulls which made £800 younger sorts reached £710 Chris Bond, £700 Rachel Skinner and £680 for the Wearing family up from Tavistock.
Charolais bulls again in top demand and drew £750 for the Wearing family, £650 LJ Goaman and £600 Brain Scambler.
Angus reached £700 for a strong sort from RA Ayre & Son, more £655 for WGA Hunkin & Son, £630 for Steven and Karen Kendall, £628 JR Frayne and £620 Nick and Kate Bowden.
Hereford bulls attained £625 for Andrew Oke, others £618 for Martin Dairy Ltd, £615 ST & EE Nicholls, £605 for Bradley Farm Partnership and £585 for ARP Farming.
Heifers saw some big returns and sold away to £700 for the best of the Bulls in from O Petherick & Sons, others £700 again for Steve Furse, £660 A & D Heyward, £650 Nick and Kate Bowden, £640 Trenwood Farming Ltd with 65 Blue heifers averaging £531.
Smart Limousin heifers to £698 Jenny Hookway, £660 for the Wearing family and £625 for Rachel Skinner with 11 Limousin heifers averaging £601.
Angus heifers hit £635 RA Ayre & Sons, others £530 and £535 for Trenwood Farming Ltd.
Dairy Sired Bulls
Friesian bulls remain a bouyant trade with 21 forward averaging £205 to a top of £390 for RG Weeks & Son and £305 (x2) HI Angwin & Son.
290 Store Cattle
Another solid entry of quality store cattle this week with trade for the stronger feeding and turnout cattle up £100 on previous weeks.
The strongest fleshed steers topped at £2180 for a 21mth Charolais from Messrs RJ & HJ Vanstone of Holsworthy who also topped the British Blues at £2170 for a 22mth steer, other British Blues from PH JM & RP Reed of Milton Dameral to £2060.
7 19mth British Blues from Messrs ACG Marshall of Holsworthy to £2000 and Simmental steers from Messrs Bray Farms of Barnstaple at £1960 (2).
Natives again sold well this week, 2 Welsh Black steers from Mr CH Wood of Langtree to £2150 and Aberdeen Angus to £2100 from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain of Shebbear.
Heifers topped at £2040 for a 25mth British Blue from Messrs Bray Farms of Barnstaple, 5 other British Blues from Messrs ACG Marshall realised £1970 and a smart young well fleshed 19mth British Blue from Messrs Handsford Farm Partners to £1900.
Limousin heifers from Messrs RJ & HJ Vanstone to £1870 and 16mth Simmental heifers from Mr O Copplestone of Holsworthy at £1830.
Best of the Native heifers to £1890 for 3 Aberdeen Angus from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain.
A strong Friesian trade with a top of £2020 for a steer from Messrs Bray Farms, other well framed steers from Messrs RJ & HJ Vanstone to £1900 (4) and 2 from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain at £1750.
Young Bulls
34 Bulls through the ring this week, a 9mth British Blue from Mr R Keenor of Crediton to £1400 others to £1380 and Aberdeen Angus to £1330.
7 Aberdeen Angus bulls from Messrs DI & ML Wootton of Chulmleigh at £1320 and 5 British Blues to £1210.
Younger Cattle
Another good entry saw the trade hold well.
A cracking run of young single suckled Aberdeen Angus from Messrs RKH Vooght of Petrockstowe saw a 14mth steer to £1970, his 11mth steers to £1890 (2) and 9 & 10mth Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1380.
Another cracking run of outlying cattle from Messrs AD & SKA Darley of South Molton saw 12mth Aberdeen Angus steers to £1780 (2) & £1640 (7) with 5 12mth British Blue steers from the same farm to £1680 and 12mth Charolais heifers from Mr J Congdon of Saltash to £1550 & £1450.
A good run of cattle from Messrs JA & RS Mills of Petersmarland saw 10mth British Blue steers to £1800 & £1760 and 10mth old heifers to £1470.
Plenty of younger 9-10mth Continental and Native steers and heifers to £1100-£1300.
Grazing Cows
3 Aberdeen Angus cows from Messrs BE & G Palmers of Sheepston topped at £1870, 4 others at £1430.
OTM Weighing Cows
258ppk was the top for a small Hereford cow from Mr J Congdon of Saltash which all together realised £1424.
48 Dairy Cattle
Today’s sale saw a stand-on trade to recent weeks with all qualities forward selling to good demand.
Topping the sale at £3250 was a freshly calved 3rd calver yielding 42Kgs on behalf of Treveglos Farm Ltd of Bodmin.
Best Farm Partnership Ltd of Saltash sold a 2nd calving cow yielding 40Kgs to £2800 with others from the same vendor realising £2700.
Yeo Vale Farm Ltd of Bideford sold a 2nd calver ‘Yeovale Raptor Ruth GP83’ at £2800.
Heifers also saw a good trade topping at £3150 for ‘Laram Hampshire Primrose’ on behalf of the Mitchell Family of Bodmin.
Treveglos Farm Ltd saw their heifers rise to £2900, 2850, £2750 with their consignment of 9 milkers averaging £2656.
Messrs J Congdon & Son of Saltash saw fresh heifers to £2750 and £2700 with their consignment of 7 averaging £2436.
Yeo Vale Farm Ltd realised £2600 for ‘Yeovale Ryder Violet 2’. Crossbred heifers topped at £1850 for a Jersey X heifer on behalf of Trenithon Farm of Helston.
A small entry of dry cows sold to £1800 for Messrs EV & BK Benney of Helston with in calf heifers roaring away to £2200 for a heifer due late April on behalf of KJ Waldon & Partners of Umberleigh.
Owen Williams of Helston sold a superb pedigree Dairy Shorthorn Calf ‘Trenithon Spartan April 2’ born February to £400.
