Much larger entry and a faster trade for all weights and a lot more could have been sold, with an overall average of 332.1ppk.

Several pens of good meat hoggs over 340ppk to a top of 348ppk from 2 vendors, Brad Tonkin of Ugworthy Barton 42kgs to £146 and Mr J Canham of Narracott, Beaworthy 40kgs at £139.

Mike Bellew of Gammaton, Bideford realised 344ppk for his 45kgs to £155. Then 5 vendors at 341ppk, top per head on the day was £165 for 3 pens of heavies from Geoffrey and Simon Grigg of Weach Barton, Bideford.

Draft Ewes

A flying trade from start to finish overall average of £140.42 to a top of £170 for Texel x from S Piper & Sons of Herdwick, Holsworthy. Suffolk x to £167 from Brad Tonkin of Ugworthy Barton, mules to £160 and Dorsets at £157.

Small entry but a firm trade, top being £120 from J&M Huxtable of Garnacott, Huntshaw.

151 Inlamb Ewes

Good entry of inlamb ewes and a very strong trade. Colin Davey of Stoke, Hartland had a smart run of Suffolk x 2T age march lambers which topped at £275 for 3 pens and Scott Tummy of Merrymeet saw his 3 pens of mules 2T march lambers at £260.

Couples 29E + 37l

Good entry and a very fast trade, doubles to £370 from Stuart Woolen of Northam and singles to £280 from Messrs J&M Huxtable of Garnacott.

352 Calves

Another impressive trade throughout the sale, with numbers and trade strides in front of all other Southwest centres - Holsworthy is the place for your calves.

Weaned Calves

A Quality run of weaned calves and stirks which sold extremely well and reached £925 (6m) for a big bunch of Blue steers sold by Yeo Vale Farm LTD, other Blue steers away to £810 (6m) in from WA Raffe & Sons. Best Charolais heifers up to £920 (7m) in from RG Amor & Son, Yeovil.

Milk Calves

Some top end prices seen again with Limousin bulls racing up to £805 (x2) and £655 for Henscott Barton, Bradford, £600 for JR Frayne, Launceston and £572 for B Smith, Okehampton.

Best Charolais bulls to £740 (x2), £688 for NJ & KC Bowden, Highampton, others up to £680, £660 for BD & DG Andrew, Shebbear, £650 for GRM Hill, Lamerton and more for the Bowden Family to £640.

British Blue bulls to £710 (x2) for ST & EE Nickels, Barnstaple, £705 for AJ & JJ Tucker & Son, Stibb Cross, £700 (x2) O Petherick & Son, Kilkhampton, £692 (x2) Bradley Farm Partnership, Hallworthy and more from the Petherick Family to £690 (x2).

Aberdeen Angus bulls what a trade. And got to £645 for B Smith, Okehampton, £570 (x2) for SG & MR Ley, Sutcombe, £558 for DA N & JM Parkhouse, St Austell and £555 for CL Stevens, Woolsery.

Hereford bulls in demand and achieved £600 (x2) for FW Dymond & Sons, Shebbear, £585 for CL Stevens, Woolsery and £522 JR Frayne, Launceston. Simmental bulls to £418 and £322 for T Wellington & Partners, St Kew.

Limousin heifers to £765 for Henscott Barton again, £690 for FW Dymond & Sons and £675 (x2) for Henscott Barton again.

British Blue heifers look a serious trade and rose to £690 (x3) O Petherick again, £675 for BD & DG Andrew again, £652 for RWH Dilling, Highampton and £615 for NJ & KC Bowden again.

Sweet Charolais heifers to £670 for RG LA SR & CM Wearing, Tavistock, £650, £615, £602 for NJ & KC Bowden again and £600 for FW Dymond & Sons again.

Aberdeen Angus heifers to £478 for LJ & LE Luxton & Son, Holsworthy, £450 for SG & MR Ley, Sutcombe, £440 for CL Stevens, Woolsery and £415 for RB & NJ Veale, Halwill.

Native Hereford heifers to £462 for CL Stevens again, £410 twice for FW Dymond & Sons again and TPW Uglow, Launceston. Simmental heifers to £205 and £18 for T Wellington & Partners again.

Dairy Sired Bulls

A huge top price for Friesian bulls at £580, £460 (x2) for Henscott Barton, £385 for CW Eddy, Truro and £300 for J Veldhouse Partnership, Chulmleigh leading to an average of £273.

275 Store Cattle

Another good entry at Holsworthy this week with quality and condition up and down throughout the sale.

Those forward cattle with flesh inline with the finnished price with most over £2000, 3 cracking 24mths Fleckvieh steers topped at £2260 from Messrs G&G Heal of High Bickington who also sold British Blues at £2160.

Other fleshed British Blues from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain of Shebbear to £2150 and another good run from Messrs D&E Kirk of Larkworthy saw 5 19mth British Blues to £2100 and 5 other at £2010 & £1960(5). Native steers topped at £2130 for a 24mth steer from Messrs J&ML Chamberlain.

A fine run of single suckled Charolais & Limousins from Messrs Gay of Ashwater saw 2 20mth Charolais to £2060 from Mr MJ Gay whilst Limousins from Mrs DE Gay of Ashwater at £1970.

Top of the heifers this week was £2060 again from Messrs J&ML Chamberlain of Shebbear for a smart 23mth British Blue, other good meat British Blues from Messrs G&G Heal of High Bickington to £1840(24mth).

Aberdeen Angus heifers to £1950 for a 24mth heifer again from Messrs J & ML Chamberlain and the run of Charolais & Limousin heifers from MJ Gay to £1790 & £1750 and Limousins to £1620.

Plenty of trade for those 16-18mth summering cattle Continental & Native steers and heifers saw most to £1600-£1700.

Younger Cattle

Another strong trade with plenty of buyers around the ring, young British Blues in demand.

13mth steers from Messrs J&J Irish of Newton St Petrock to £1540 and Charoalis from the same farm to £1490.

Younger 10-11mth British Blue steers from Messrs Heywood Farm Partnership of Ashreigney sold well at £1340(3) heifers from the same stable to £1130 and younger 9mth British Blue steers from Mr M Luxton of Marhamchurch to £1160(3) heifers to £1100.

Native steers topped at £1280 for 3 at 11mths old from Messrs CR & CF Timms & Son of Okehampton and young 11-12mth Hereford heifers from Messrs Holland Farmers of Tavistock at £1240(5), 9-10mth single suckled Aberdeen Angus from Messrs FG Knapman & Co of North Tawton saw steers to £1080 and heifers to £1060.

Breeding Stock

A small dispersal of Native cows & calves from S Taylor of East Putford saw an Aberdeen Angus cow with her Highland bull calf at £1980 and a Highland cow and her Highland heifer calf to £1520.
