A FAMILY and two climbers from Farnham were among the survivors of the devastating earthquake to hit Nepal on Saturday.

Jude and Steve Collins, who together with their two children Amy, 11, and Paul, 8, moved to the Nepalese capital Kathmandu three years ago to work for Christian aid charity Tearfund, were forced to live in a tent after the disaster for fear of aftershocks.

Two former Weydon schoolboys – Michael Tarry, 35, and Stephen Martini, 33 – were also in Kathmandu at the time of the earthquake having completed the trip of a lifetime to Everest base camp - the site of several fatal avalanches - just days earlier.
