Family and friends gathered for a party to celebrate the 100th birthday of Ivy Brimacombe on Thursday, October 21 at Deer Park Nursing Home, Holsworthy. With five generations of family, reaching to four great, great grandchildren, and several friends visiting throughout the day, it was a busy occasion. Born into a farming family at Newlands, near Bradworthy, Ivy was the youngest of the seven children of Tom and Polly Sillifant. In 1930 she married Jack Brimacombe and they had two children. Together they farmed at Lufflands, near Bradworthy, until retirement when they moved to Holsworthy. They enjoyed 71 years of marriage, until Jack's passing in 2000. The cake and food was supplied by Deer Park, and a wonderful basket of flowers was brought by Gordon Temblett, who, as a young boy, was sent as a wartime evacuee to stay with Jack and Ivy at Lufflands, and who has stayed in contact with the Brimacombes ever since.
