Members of Narberth Scouts and Girlguiding have embarked on a project to give their Scout and Guide Hut a much-needed 'facelift.'

Thanks to the foresight of previous generations, the building has been part of the Narberth community for about 40 years, and understandably after such an active life, it is looking a little tired and in need of some TLC.

Surprisingly, the hut, a fantastic facility which is used by between 150 and 200 young people between the ages of five and 24 for their weekly meetings, has twice been turned down for Lottery Funding for much-needed repair work, including rewiring and the heating system.

Initially disappointed, the leaders realised that among their leaders and parents they have a wealth of skills and decided to undertake the work themselves.

A spokesman for the group said: "It's going to be a long-term project. Our budget is limited which means serious fundraising with the more essential work being prioritised for this summer. We've already had a positive response from the public and hope to have the community behind us."
