FRIENDS of Bude Sea Pool (FoBSP) are encouraging people to purchase their tickets for a fundraising evening, so the money raised can be put towards 'security improvements' at the pool following a recent act of vandalism there.
An evening with actor Ian McNeice, who plays Bert Large in Doc Martin, will take place at the Falcon Hotel on July 25. The event will include a Cornish supper.
The evening starts at 7pm at the Falcon Hotel (01288 352005). Tickets are £20, available from the Falcon Hotel or Seventh Wave Gallery, Bude (01288 356935).
The Post reported last week that beach huts were damaged and wetsuits covered in glass during the act of vandalism at the sea pool, which left volunteers to foot the bill and clean up the mess.
Last week on the sea pool's social media page, the Friends uploaded photos of further mess left there.
The online post simply described it as 'unbelievable', but Fay Hargreaves, charity co-ordinator at Bude Sea Pool, has stressed this is far from the norm.
She said: "I do want to stress that this is unusual in Bude.
"Bude relies on tourism for its economy and the USP of Bude Sea Pool attracts visitors to Bude for its safe family swimming.
"I went down to find the further mess and was so disgusted to find all the broken glass.
"We sadly have come to expect litter, which is bad enough, and discarded barbecues, etc. but this was loads of broken glass particularly.
"If a dog or swimmer had been on the terraces before me, a nasty accident would have occurred.
"We had a school group just arriving who had to be directed away from the shallow end, so we could check the water for broken glass in case we had to close the pool.
"The majority of the time spent at Bude Sea Pool is tranquil, safe and fun, and keeping it that way for many generations to come is the ethos of FoBSP.
"Another case of the very small minority spoiling it for the majority. Bude is a wonderful place to be all year round, but this incident had shocked many people."
