WHAT happens when a coastal community rallies together with world-class artists to mentor the next generation?

You get 'Dancing Borders Away,' an ambitious Performing Arts platform inspired and presented by CreativeLooe.

Liskeard and Looe Radio were proud to be invited along to this weekends busy dance rehearsals and costume workshop ahead of the debut production 'onYon,' a stunning new contemporary dance creation inspired by the historic 'Onion Johnnies' and which premieres later this month.

Firmly rooted in our local community, this project is a brilliant celebration of collective creativity.

It is directed by choreographer Gocha-Maria Mendible and unites talented local youth with dance icons, including Julie Felix MBE and Rachel Bond, director of the Bond Dance Company. The initiative also works in close collaboration with Sheila Brock of Sheila’s School of Dancing, and Sam Day, head of performance at Looe Community Academy.

It is a true powerhouse of collaboration, featuring choreography by Gocha alongside fashion legend Elaine Forster-Gandey, who brought her high-fashion expertise, including work with the likes of John Galliano, Vivienne Westwood, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell, straight to Looe’s young performers, plus multi-instrumentalist and composer Arlo Anwin, who has created an original score for the production.

Ten young dancers aged 13 to 17, who were selected in auditions last July, are ready to take centre stage after working side-by-side with this exceptional team.

A wonderful Looe-based project performed in Liskeard, catch the performance at The Public Hall on Wednesday, September 23, at 7.30pm.

Great Trethew Vintage Rally

The Liskeard and Looe Radio Roadshow were once again invited along to this annual celebration of all things classic and splendid which was held over the late-August Bank Holiday weekend.

On this occasion, however, we were asked to perform on stage both at the 'pre-show' evening, for the entertainment of the large number of onsite campers who had arrived for the weekend ahead, and as the early evening entertainment on day one followed by local band the Tideford Tornados.

The huge entertainment and refreshments marquee is an ideal venue particularly when the weather turns against you, as it sadly did at the weekend.

It has to be said that the organisers and exhibitors did a wonderful job in difficult weather conditions and those who braved it did see some sunshine and excellent entertainment over the three show days - so, until next year!
