TWENTY-ONE pupils were treated to a trip to RNAS Culdrose as part of the strong links between Egloskerry Primary School and 829 Naval Air Squadron. Since May this year, a small team of Merlin aircraft engineers from the squadron have been joining in with the school's class 3 project: the 'kit car' Greenpower Goblin. Petty Officer Ben Borman was impressed by the children's enthusiasm for the project and he set plans in place to continue the collaboration with a visit the air station — the roles would be reversed with children seeing the Merlin aircraft engineers doing their job. They were treated to a two-day, overnight experience consisting of a range of activities, including the Merlin Training Facility, the Engineering Training School, the on-site fire station, 736 squadron who operate the 'Hawk', the 'Dummy Deck' and the hangar full of Harrier and Lynx aircraft and 829 Squadron, who operate the Merlin Mk1 and Mk2.
