THE Cornish All Blacks scored six converted tries and Sedgley Park scored five converted tries in a feast of attacking rugby which was 'just what the crowd ordered.' No wonder All Blacks Director of Rugby Jon Hill called it "the best attacking performance we've had."
The scoring was opened by home lock Paul Williams with a well worked try which was converted by full back Stephen Nutt. Four minutes later the All Blacks were level when scrum half Lewis Webb scored with his fly half Tony Yapp, who converted all six of the visitors' tries, adding the extras. Ryan Westren put the visitors ahead but five minutes later home scrum half Chris Wilkinson was over with Nutt's conversion levelling it. The All Blacks added tries from wing Turner and lock Nathan Hanna, to bring the half-time score to 14-28.
All Black wing, Lewitt, crossed six minutes into the second half but back came Sedgley with centre Chris Hall finishing off a determined backs move and Nutt again converting. The All Blacks new young lock Hanna impressed by emphasising his abilities, by crossing for a second try just after the hour. Yapp, of course, converted but was replaced by Lewis Patterson and, whether coincidence or not, the Manchester club started to hit back big time, scoring two quick fire tries in the 67 and 73 minutes with Riley adding the four extras to narrow the score to a single converted try.
The All Blacks held onto their seven points lead to maintain their third position, fifteen points behind London Scottish who are challenging leaders Esher for automatic promotion to The Championship.
Jon Hill added "It was a huge performance and a true team effort and we scored plentiful tries, five out of six of them were undoubtedly contenders for the team's try of the season. There was lots of quality off-loading and our pack laid the foundation. And in combination the pack and backs were superb. It opened the way for the wings Kieron Lewitt and Ben Turner to really open up. To win like this away from home at Sedgley Park who beat us at home was really very good indeed."
