VISITORS to Blackberry Farm near Milton Damerel got to see the five stages of a chick hatching just in time for Easter on April 17.

The five chicks hatched in perfect succession, creating a visual depiction of each stage of hatching — and it was a complete coincidence.

Lizzy Kirby, who runs the farm, said: “I was very lucky to have them hatch in a row like that. I’ve had eight hatch so far, another is hatching as we speak and I have another nine to hatch.”

Lizzy said they are Buff Orpington chicks. “They are the cutest little chicks. We are hatching them for the visitors to coincide with the Easter weekend,” Lizzy said. “Lots of visitors actually watched them hatching yesterday. They will go on to be used for breeding so males and females will all have a free range life.”

And the Easter family is growing. Lizzy said there are a few more arrivals for visitors to the farm to look out for: “We also had a beautiful calf and have lots of lambs for the visitors and it’s free to visit Blackberry Farm.”
