A driver from Essex has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, following a crash in Launceston last night.

Following a collision between two cars, one parked, on Tavistock Road last night, a man was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

During the incident, it was reported that he left the scene on foot, but subsequently returned a short time later.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 7.40pm on Monday, October 2 to Tavistock Road in Launceston following reports that a car had been in collision with a parked car.

"It was also reported that the driver had left the scene on foot but returned a short time later – he was taken to hospital as a precaution.

"A 36-year-old man from Essex was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and later released under investigation whilst enquiries continue.

"The road was closed due to an oil spill and was handed to Highways."
