POLICE have warned dog owners to beware of boar after an alleged attack in the Forest – while graphic images of a boar piglet apparently savaged by a dog have been posted online.
The police issued the warning after a couple – named as Jemma and Roger Vine – who were walking their springer spaniel Oddie which was attacked on Aylburton Common.
The boar charged the dog leaving it with a broken leg and other injuries before it charged Mrs Vine – she was saved by her husband who beat off the pig with a branch.
The gamekeeper on the estate has been informed and he believes there is a female boar with a young family on the estate which may explain the violent behaviour.
Following the publicity about the attack, members of a pro-boar group posted the pictures of a dead boar piglet online.
The alleged incident was witnessed by members of the Forest of Dean Wild Boar Hunt Saboteurs group who claim the mother boar had retreated into undergrowth with the rest of her piglets.
