I WRITE with regard to the appalling condition of the public toilets in the Launceston multi-storey car park.
A few weeks ago I was travelling to Exeter by bus, so visited this facility prior to departure. Upon entering the ladies' section, a revolting smell filled my nostrils and I was disgusted by the filthy state of the cubicles. One was labelled 'out of order' whilst a layer of diarrhoea or vomit coated the seat of the second toilet.
Although the third appeared less dirty, there was no lock or fastening on the door. The floor was too wet to place a bag against the door and I had no intention of sitting on the toilet seat so I could wedge it with my foot.
Reluctantly, I decided to leave, waiting a further two hours before I reached Exeter, where the toilets were clean.
I found the lack of cleanliness to be completely unacceptable. If I had needed to change a baby's nappy or take a child to the toilet, the situation would have been much worse.
For many visitors arriving in the town either by car or bus, this could be their first impression. Some female bus drivers need to use them quickly, due to timetable restrictions. Out of respect to the general public, these facilities should be hygienically maintained so they meet a reasonable standard.
