How should those of us in Ross who are opposed to Conservative policies vote in the coming general election?
Last time Jesse Norman won with around 46% of the vote. Of the 54% who voted against him some 42% voted Lib Dem and 12% for others. This suggests that if it were a two horse race the Lib Dems could well win. So should everyone who dislikes Conservative policies vote Lib Dem, using the proverbial clothes peg on the nose if necessary, or should we vote for our preferred candidate or party?
Then we might feel principled but we could have contributed to the election of a government that we positively do not want. Given the only justification for our first-past-the-post electoral system, that it produces a clear result, no longer seems to hold, perhaps we should start working towards a new, modern electoral system which would give all of us a real, positive say in both the local and the national outcome.
