BUDE'S hopes of promotion were well and truly dashed on Saturday when a disappointing performance resulted in a draw against Taunton Vale.

An unusually quiet Bude got off to a pretty dreadful start seeming unable to string more than a few accurate passes together handing most of the possession to the home side.

Taunton moved the ball around the pitch well and appeared the better side. A short corner was awarded and the ball was fired against the backboard to take them into the lead.

When Bude created chances they appeared to be goal shy with too many passes in the D and not enough shots.

In the last ten minutes of the first half, Bude did start to up their game and the ball started to move around the midfield of Miranda Pomeroy, Di Old, Robyn Pengilly and Naomi Hatcher.

Leanne Stanbury once again provided an effective link between the midfield and Tammy Snowsill, Briony Varcoe and Leanne Edermanger up front.

The second half was a marked improvement on the first. With the defensive players, Kirsty Heslop, Pam Johns and Caroline Hobbs organising things from the back, Bude regained their structure, something missing in the first half.

Appearing more hungry for the ball, Bude were soon awarded a short corner. The ball was played out to Tammy who fired it towards the post where Di Old guided it into the goal.

Keeper Jo Timmins made some good saves to prevent the home side from going into the lead again. With decisions frequently going against them, it was a frustrating game but considering how Bude played, a draw was probably a fair result.

Thanks go to Caroline Hobbs who has had a great season with Bude. She will be missed for their last two games of the season as she is off travelling.
