THE Delabole Skate and Park Project held its ‘Summer Fete’ in the village park recently.
Despite the poor weather in the build up to the event, there was an excellent turnout by the locals, with £871.72 being raised.
The group’s treasurer, Jo Harris, said that the day went perfectly to plan.
Jo said: “The summer fete was really successful. There was a lot of rain in the days before the fete but there was an excellent turnout from the locals, which shows the great community spirit in the village.”
There were lots of different activities available on the day, including a drop slide and a bouncy castle for the children, craft stalls, a car boot sale, henna tattoos and garden glitter and a tombola raffle plus much more, while St Teath Butchers provided the burgers, which were soon sold out.
Jo added: “We had great support from a number of local businesses and there was a good variety of activities for people to get involved with.
“I’d like to thank friends, families, the local community and local businesses for all of their support in making it such a great day.”
As well as the activities, plans were on display and Jo gave an update on the project.
She said: “We’re having a meeting with Maverick Industries, who are the skate park developers we’ve chosen, at the end of September to draw up plans and guide us with the fundraising.
“We need to raise about £170,000 and so far we’ve raised a couple of thousand from small fundraisers, but we’re looking to apply for grants and get the project moving forward as quickly as possible.”
