DELABOLE Carnival week got off to a good start last weekend with the good weather still with us.
The Saturday night brought crowds flocking to the Big Delabole Carnival Bingo, which was the first opening night to kick off the week of events.
A bright and early start on Sunday morning saw the motor bike run starting at 10am, which took 25 riders for a relaxed ride to Bude for coffee by the canal and on to Launceston then heading back to Delabole.
The United Service of the Delabole Methodist Church and the St John’s Church took place at the carnival marquee where around 60 people gathered to take part. The service was led by the Rev Bryan Ede, the Rev Angela Copper along with various sketches from members of the Open Book.
This was followed by the crowning of this year’s carnival royalty, which was preformed by the out going royalty of 2017 Lucy and Hollie Ferguson.
The afternoon saw a fantastic display by a lot of local emergency services, which gave an insight to the work that they do. Then there was a children’s disco with mascots, Lego Batman and Poppy from Trolls.
The day rounded off with the ever-popular Delabole carnival quiz organised by Graham and Sue Burnard.
Alison Stacey, stand-in carnival secretary, added: “I am delighted with the start to the week. It’s been hot a lot of hard work but its all been good fun; I am just hoping that weather holds out for the carnival procession on Saturday after our foggy time last year.”
