THERE was triumph for Whitstone teenager Daniel Woodward at Callington Honey Fair last week when he received many awards for his bees.
Daniel, 16, came away for a second year in a row with the Callington Lions Rose Bowl for most points in the cookery classes, and the Callington Motors Perpetual Cup for most points across the show.
He has been keeping bees for the last seven years and has built up his own colony from 16 hives to 37 hives.
After entering the Bude Horticultural and Honey Show back in August he decided he would enter this year’s Callington Honey Fair again.
He did not have a lot of time to prepare as he recently moved from Budehaven to Petroc College in Barnstaple, which meant he was spending more time in the day travelling — but despite this he managed to enter 20 out of the 29 classes with some having two entries per class.
He achieved five firsts, five seconds, five thirds, one very highly commended and four commended.
Each prize received is worth points that are added up at the end to give a final score.
Daniel expressed thanks to Sue Hault, who staged his entries for him and congratulated her on coming away with two cups.
