THE sun shone over St Breward on Saturday for the traditional carnival parade — the first of this year's carnival season.
Events took place throughout the week before culminating with the grand procession.
St Breward Carnival Royalty was pulled through the village by 16-year-old Jack Coleman, followed by a variety of colourful and creative floats and walkers.
The majorette troupe travelled from Poole in Dorset to perform and Bideford Youth Pipe Band played while the Cornish Wreckers danced and delighted the crowds.
Carnival committee secretary, Sharon Bourne said it was a 'wonderful day'.
"The weather was fantastic. The crowds gathered to watch the procession which proceeded on the parish roads to the football club, where the large marquee was beautifully decorated with handmade bunting.
"We had visiting royalty from St Dennis, St Teath and Wadebridge. We had a good number of entries and the commitee was delighted by the entries and especially with the number of children involved. There was a wide range of group entries, from baby and toddler to the WI.
"We would like to thank everyone who took the time and were able to turn out. It was a great carnival, we had a wonderful time and the committee looks forward to next year."
The committee donated £2,400 to local causes from last year. Fundraising continues with a safari supper on Saturday, September 19.
