THE fire service was called to an unusual report on Tuesday, August 1, of a cow stuck in a cesspit in Pyworthy.

Crews were called out at 7.45am to reports of a cow stuck in a cesspit behind the village hall in Pyworthy.

Fire control mobilised appliances from Holsworthy and the specialist rescue team from Barnstaple to attend this incident.

Upon arrival crews confirmed one cow was in the cesspit, and they got to work with a mini digger, which was kindly donated by a local, to gain access to area.

At 8.26am crews confirmed the cow had been released from the cesspit using the mini digger and strops.
