BOXING Day, 1949, saw Hazel Mitchell marry John Hall at Tresmeer Church, and 70 years later they have celebrated their wedding anniversary with family and close friends.

In 1949 Hazel was attended by her two sisters, Bet and Lorna, and John’s best man was Cyril Gilbert and his daughter was the young bridesmaid.

Hazel had met John when he came to Launceston from Coventry. With his father they brought the entire farm of animals on the train — this would have been quite a spectacle.

Following their marriage they continued to farm and their daughter Kathleen was born whilst the family was still farming.

Eventually they sold the farm and moved into Launceston. They had another daughter Annette, who unfortunately passed away six years ago.

Hazel and John celebrated with an anniversary meal with family and friends on Saturday, December 28, at Trethorne Leisure Farm.

They were surprised by a visit from the mayor and mayoress of Launceston Dave and Carole Gordon, who presented them with a floral display.
