PLANNING is underway for the #TAL19 run and fun run.

The run — hosted by newly-formed charity, Talan’s Trust, in memory of 19-year-old Talan Penny from Bude, who sadly died earlier in the year after living with a rare form of cancer, rhabdomyosarcoma — will take place on Sunday, November 19, starting and finishing at Bude Surf Club, and taking in all of Talan’s favourite spots in Bude along the way.

The day will consist of two events — the 1.9k fun run for anyone under the age of 17, and the main 19k run for anyone aged 17 and over.

The #TAL19 run will commence at 11am sharp, with all competitors meeting at Bude Surf Club, Crooklets. Registration for the main event will start from 9.30am in the surf club, with a competitors’ briefing taking place at 10.30am outside the club.

The 1.9k fun run will start at 10am from the surf club. No registration is required for this, but an application form should be filled out prior to the day. Applications cannot be accepted on the day, which has been decided to ensure the smooth running of the event.

The application will have to be completed manually, and is available on the Talan’s Trust Facebook page. It can then be sent to the address listed on the form, or to Alchemist Jewellery, Belle Vue, Bude. The fee to take part can be paid in cash or cheque to Talan’s Trust.

For the 1.9k fun run, fees are £5 per person. For those running the 19k solo, they will have to pay £19; those running in a pair can share the fee of £29 and those taking part in a group of four, running 4.75k each, can share a fee of £39.

The event is to raise as much money as possible for Talan’s Trust, which supports the Chris Lucas Trust, a charity set up to raise funds for research into and awareness of rhabdomyosarcoma.

There will be a perpetual trophy for the first placed man and first placed woman for the 19k run, with a small replica trophy to take home. There will also be a small cup for the girl and boy winners of the fun run.

There will be an option for competitors and supporters to buy a #TAL19 long-sleeved baseball top, with all proceeds going to Talan’s Trust. These are also hoped to be available on the soon-to-be-created the Talan’s Trust website.

The charity will also be appealing for marshals closer to the date of the event, and those interested should keep an eye on Talan’s Trust Facebook page for further details.

Soup and cake will be provided for competitors and marshals at the surf club. To bake or donate a cake, contact Sarah by emailing [email protected]
