CORNWALL Councillor for Launceston Central Alex Folkes has said that he is "still worried" that potential subsidy cuts to bus companies could threaten the services provided in North Cornwall, despite talks between the authorities.

Cllr Folkes revealed a letter had been sent to bus companies informing them that their payments for carrying free bus pass holders would be decreased from 73.5 per cent to 44 per cent — and backdated to April — at Launceston Town Council's latest meeting, held on Tuesday, July 19.

This was after Cornwall Council's Cabinet Member for Transportation, Cllr Graeme Hicks had already sent an email to fellow members stating he believed the current payment structure regarding bus company subsidies was not sustainable — midway through the financial year.
