MEMBERS of Holsworthy Town Council discussed during the full meeting on Wednesday, November 6, what projects they would like to undertake for the year 2020/21.

The list of proposals, yet to be agreed upon, include: a skateboard event in Stanhope Park; recycling initiatives; replacement lamp posts in the Square; a Hallowe’en event with a witches dance in the Square; projects linked to the Holsworthy Community Involvement Group and the recommendations arising from its recent survey; VE and VJ Commemorations.

The final suggestion was discussed as a separate point. Town clerk Vanessa Saunders said: “The VE and VJ Commemorations from the town council include a street party over the weekend of the 8th of May 2020, a memorial wood carving with an interpretation board in Stanhope Park, a possible commemoration event, a commemoration bench in the Square and joining in with the nationally suggested commemoration ideas.”

These suggestions from SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, include: the playing of ‘Battle’s O’er’ and ‘VE 75 Years’; the nation’s toast to the heroes of World War Two; churches and cathedrals ringing out for peace; street parties and other parties; services of commemoration and celebration in churches, including the reading of the Tribute to the Millions and the playing of the Last Post.
