TOWN councillors in Holsworthy weren’t keen on the idea of purchasing tablets to cut down on the cost of printing and photocopying council documents each month.
Although the mayor was unable to attend the meeting, on Wednesday, October 4, a message was relayed to councillors via the town clerk. Vanessa Saunders said she would be looking into cheaper printing options but the mayor, Jon Hutchings, had made a suggestion of his own. She said: “Cllr Hutchings has suggested we get tablets, one for each of us. Photocopying documents for each meeting is becoming very expensive and Cllr Hutchings thinks tablets might be the way to go, what do councillors think?”
Cllr Sanders expressed his objection to the proposal. He said: “I don’t think tablets will be any better, they are expensive and it isn’t the same as having a hard copy of a document to look through.”
Deputy mayor Colin Punter, who was chairing the meeting, agreed that ‘tablets aren’t a good alternative’.
Councillors decided a decision wouldn’t be made until Ms Saunders had had time to look over cheaper photocopying alternatives.
