HOMEOWNERS in Torridge who need to replace a broken or inefficient boiler may be eligible for assistance through funds from Torridge District Council,
The council is working in partnership with local not-for-profit organisation Wessex Resolutions to deliver fixed rate loans for home improvements.
The average lifespan of a boiler is ten to 15 years and the energy saving trust estimates that if an old G-rated boiler is replaced with a modern A-rated boiler, with a full set of heating controls, a household could save around £340 a year on gas bills.
Emma Lower, of Wessex Resolutions, said: “Being able to help the local people to keep their families warm and healthy means a huge amount to us and we are so pleased that the local council can offer this money because the need is unquestionably there.”
Janet Williams, environmental health and community safety manager, said: “Homeowners with inefficient older boilers or no central heating will face higher energy costs and poor living conditions. The loan funds provided by the council are an opportunity for people to find a solution for repairs and maintenance that really can make a difference in their lives.”
Loan funds are recycled for the benefit of the community. Each time a repayment is made the money goes back into the original lending pot and is then available to help more people in need. Spreading the cost of a replacement boiler can be a real benefit to people who can’t afford the unexpected cost upfront but need to have a working boiler right away.
