THE people of Holsworthy could benefit from a quicker police response to incidents if suggested plans are enforced as a result of budget cuts.

At the February 2 town council meeting, Sgt Pennie Channing said things were moving very rapidly within the police force.

She explained that Devon and Cornwall Police have to save £50 million in the next four years and 82 per cent of the budget is spent on people, so as a result of this, there would be a loss.

After speaking with the Chief Constable, Sgt Channing said 700 police officer positions were expected to be lost, along with 500 civilian positions.
