IT proved to be third time lucky for the Cornwall Schools FA organizers, as the finals were played at Biscovey junior school on Thursday April.

Coads Green had won through to the final to play Nanpean having beaten: Landulph (1-0), Trenode (2-1) and St. Nicholas (4-0).

The match started with Coads Green playing into the sun. This did not appear to trouble the team as Nanpean were pinned into their own half. Coads Green created several chances but were denied by a combination of brave goalkeeping, tenacious tackling and the woodwork (Cadan Grahame glancing a header onto the far post). Nanpean looked dangerous on the counter attack but the ball would not run for them on the bobbly pitch. The first half ended without either goalkeeper beaten.

The second half started at frenetic pace with Nanpean on the attack and they nearly made the breakthrough but for some timely defending by Samuel Thomas, Bethany Parsons and goalkeeper Brandon Jones smothering the ball.

Back came Coads Green and the industry of Bradley Scoble combined with some breathtaking inter-play between Bradley and Nick Crowle opened up the Nanpean defence. Coads Green looked certain to score from a rasping drive but for a quite wonderful save by the Nanpean 'keeper.

Coads Green were now in the ascendency and the pressure eventually told. Bradley Scoble created space and fired in a low drive which went in under the 'keeper.

The goal galvanised Coads Green, with Samuel Thomas and, the hard working, George Harvey pushing forward, Nanpean were finding it harder to break out.

Coads Green added their second when another searching cross by Cadan from the right led to a shot which was, once again, saved by the Nanpean 'keeper. This led to a goalmouth scramble and in the panic the Nanpean defence struck their own player and the ball rebounded past their despairing 'keeper.

Nanpean were still endeavouring to take the game to Coads Green but couldn't find a killer pass. When Nanpean did break into the Coads Green half, Coads Green were breaking quickly. One of these breaks led to the final goal. Nick Crowle was played clean through and calmly slotted the ball past the exposed Nanpean 'keeper.

The final whistle sounded and Coads Green had won the shield. The match was played in good spirit and both teams were a credit to their respective schools. The Cornwall Schools FA deserve credit for organising this competition and thanks go to all the officials.
