A YOUNG French man cycling ‘4,000 miles for a greener Earth’ was welcomed at a farm at Davidstow recently, where he was able to camp before setting off for the rest of his journey.

Duncan Turner from Worcestershire was staying with family at Wills Farm, Davidstow, when Loic arrived on October 22, and asked if he could set up camp there for the night. They agreed, he set up camp in the garden, and they invited him in for dinner.

Mr Turner said: “It was just out of the blue. He just explained what he was doing and asked if he could stay.

“I think he was getting a bit concerned as it is out in the middle of nowhere — up there places are a bit few and far between! We said there is plenty of space at the farm, and he came in for dinner with us.”

Mr Turner said what Loic explained to them might have been a little ‘lost in translation’, but continued: “He said he was doing 4,000 miles for a gap year. He is in university, but they can’t just do nothing on their gap year, they have to go abroad. He decided he would do cycling around the UK.

“He wanted to do it in as green a way as possible. He’s making a note of any energy he uses, such as charging his phone, and he will offset that when he gets back.

“He will work it out, and if he goes to the shops he might cycle instead, or he might not watch the TV for that night.”

Loic explained that he was cycling from Scotland all the way through the UK via Ireland, Wales and through Cornwall to Land’s End, heading across to London to finish. His route has taken in lots of costal paths and towns.

After a breakfast the following morning, Loic set off from Davidstow towards Land’s End.
