Holsworthy Community College staff Mrs Cobbledick and Mrs Gliddon organised a baking competition last Thursday to raise funds for the North Devon Hospice Longhouse Appeal.
Students were invited to enter a show stopping cake with a ‘Colour-Me-Happy’ theme, in conjunction with the event in Stanhope Park on Sunday.
Mrs Cobbledick and Mrs Gliddon were overwhelmed by the entries and expressed thanks to everyone involved for making the competition such a success.
Judging the entries proved to be tough as more than 30 cakes were received — judging was carried out by the school’s own version of Mary Berry, Mr Foster, and Paul Hollywood, Mrs Kennedy. After their tough job of taste-testing all 30 cakes points were awarded for taste, appearance and technique.
The winners were: 1, Heidi Horn; 2, Charley Hockridge; 3, Bryony Darwin; 4, Poppy Hamblin and Susannah Leigh. From the staff entries the winners were: 1, Ms Iles; 2, The Kitchen Staff; 3, Mrs Badham.
The cakes were then either sold whole or cut into slices – raising an incredible £163.55.
