THE funding for a party for the people of Holsworthy and surrounding parishes was the basis of a contentious discussion between councillors at the February 2 town council meeting.
The Holsworthy Memorial Management Committee is preparing a party to be held around the Memorial Hall and Manor Car Park in celebration of the royal wedding on April 29.
The day will include a street party; the royal wedding being shown on a big screen in the hall; a street market and a 'show to remember' in the evening.
With only a few months to go beforehand, the hall committee is working hard to drum up funding for the day. The budget they are working towards is £17,000 which includes all production for the day — the cost of security; extra policing; hire of the car parks; toilet facilities; stage lighting; advertising; band fees; royal wedding commemorative mugs; stage; advertising and a sound/ production desk.
It is hoped that the majority (£10,000) will be donated through a grant from Awards for All, but Holsworthy Town Council was asked for £5,000 towards the cost.
