A CAMPAIGN to give a local business at risk of closure a new lease of life has been successful.

Since 2021, Launceston residents have been doing their bit to stay sustainable, thanks to Let's Get Naked Refill, a shop providing a sustainable alternative to national retailers.

However, after its owner Jade Harvey, decided it was time to close the shop, a local group stepped in, hoping to save and transform the space into a hub for the community - thus Lanson Refill CIC was born.

Though the story didn’t end there, with work to be done, a fundraising campaign was launched with a target of £15,000 needing to be raised in only a matter of weeks. However, the community came together and showed their support, surpassing the target in time.

Helen Leyva Sanchez, a founding director of Lanson Refill CIC said: “What sets Lanson Refill Store apart isn’t just what’s on the shelves it’s who it belongs to. The shop operates under Lanson Refill CIC, a Community Interest Company set up to hold the business in permanent community ownership, rather than being run for private profit.

“This is run by the community, for the community. Every pound raised, every hour given by a volunteer, has come from someone who wanted to see this happen for Launceston. That’s what makes today so special.”

The group says the £15,000 raised reflects months of effort by a small team. However, the response has gone beyond money, with volunteers coming together to do their part in making sure the venture thrives.

“We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported us, whether that’s through a donation, coming along to an event, or giving their time,” said Helen. “This isn’t the end of the story it’s the start of what we hope will be a real hub for sustainability in Launceston for years to come.”
