THE family of a three-year-old girl, who tragically passed away in a house fire, has received "tremendous" support from the Lifton community.
Amelia Brown, who turned three in August, was described as a "very lively little girl" and was "bright as a button," by her gran.
She died at the family's home in Grinacoombe Moor, near Lifton, last Friday (December 9), when a severe fire broke out in the kitchen and spread to rooms on the ground and first floors.
A neighbour, Steve Hewitt, obtained a ladder to try access the room which Amelia was in, breaking the window, but was unsuccessful.
The fire service was notified at 8pm and a fire appliance from Launceston rapidly arrived on the scene. Firefighters tried to access the bedroom, but they were forced back by the heat and had to fight from the outside.
Amelia's grandparents, David and Stephanie Brown, were babysitting whilst her mother, Abigail Brown, was at a fund-raising event for Lifton Pre-school, where Amelia had started full-time in September.
Abigail rarely went anywhere without Amelia, explained Stephanie.
Her parents had separated, but Amelia's father Darren Brown, a printer, visited from his home in Watford, on a regular basis.
