Stratton
St Andrew’s Church
On May 30 the church received a gift of a new lawn mower to replace the one stolen before Christmas, as were others in the area.
This generosity by Roger Thorpe of PRO AGRO LTD, the local firm of garden machinery specialists of Launcells, was of an AL-KO 468 SP-A BIO motorized Lawn Mower, petrol driven that mulches the churchyard grass to fertilise it.
Regular visitors to the churchyard would have seen our “NO MOW MAY” policy in action for May. When our gardener, Chris Coombes, restarts his care in June several areas will be left for the summer as Wild Areas to encourage wild life and to display a range of wild flowers previously suppressed by whole area cutting.

Tithes, gifts and offerings for Chapel and Circuit funds continue to be placed in the donation box at the rear of the Chapel. Special thanks for donations towards the maintenance of the Cemetery and Chapel Grounds.
The service was followed by coffee and a chance to chat in the Wesley Room.
Bude
Inner Wheel
In 1965, a group of Bude ladies came together to form the Inner Wheel Club of Bude. The Founder President was Gwen Mill, the Founder Secretary was Hilda Walter and the Club received its Charter on May 27 of that year.
Fast forward 60 years and the Club is still going strong. The present members, together with some past members, met to celebrate the 60th anniversary with afternoon tea in the Willoughby Gallery at the Castle in Bude. Members were delighted to welcome the Founder Secretary, Hilda Walter as an honoured guest. Hilda celebrated her 100th birthday in April. They were also joined by Inner Wheel District Zone Leader, Liz Williams.

When the Club was founded, Inner Wheel was an organisation restricted to wives of members of the Rotary Club. Membership is now open to anybody who has an interest in fellowship and serving the community. For anyone who would like to know more about the Inner Wheel and particularly the Bude Club, the Castle has an exhibition covering the 60 years of the club’s life which runs until September.

North Hill
Parish Council
North Hill Parish Council met for their monthly meeting on June 2 at North Hill Village Hall.
No planning applications were received for recommendations this month. It was noted for information that the steps leading up to the slide on the mound at North Hill Play area had now been fixed. Other matters discussed included agreement to purchase one new dog poo bin due to damage to the old bin and to share that St Torney’s Church has a cleaning day on Wednesday, June 18, at 10.30am as they had been shortlisted for the 2025 Cornish Buildings award. Any willing volunteers could just turn up or email Jane at [email protected]
Considerable debate took place regarding the ongoing difficulties of parking for village hall patrons attending events in the village hall. North Hill Village Hall car park is persistently used by general members of the public who reside in the village, this leaves no spaces for individuals attending events in the village hall. Village hall attendees are often older or less able bodied and unable to walk any distance. North Hill Parish Council would like to again request that individuals who reside in the village of North Hill identify alternative parking and leave the village hall car park for hall users, cemetery visitors and play area visitors. North Hill Parish Council will be looking to put up signage for a trial three month period and unfortunately, if this is not successful, will have to proceed and purchase some form of parking restrictions. Other traffic issues discussed included the persistent amount of traffic travelling through Coads Green and not adhering to the speed limit. Concerns are consistently raised regarding the risk to the children of Coads Green School and the clerk has now written to Highways to see what additional speed measures could be put into place. Cornwall Council Ward member Councillor Adrian Parsons forwarded a report which was shared in the meeting. Full details of this report can be found on North Hill Parish Council’s website where minutes of all meetings are available.
The next meeting is due to take place on July 7 at North Hill Village Hall. Members of the public are welcome to attend the meeting, alternatively, should any members of the public wish to add any issues to the agenda for discussion, please do email the clerk on [email protected]
